Hey Fit Leaders!
I HAVE to tell you this! On Friday, I had a lovely meeting
with an inspiring woman (hope you’re reading!) and she asked, “How do
you ALWAYS go and make things happen” She questioned my ability to
always go-go-go and actually get things done well. I told her that I’ve
learned when to pull back and I am getting better at that. I explained
how I do 13 things to keep sane, but once I hit 14, I go a bit off of
the charts :) I have learned to recognize when I do too much because
things in my life will start to backfire. I listen to my gut on when to
take a day off - even when I don’t want to, because I intuitively know I
NEED it.
Over the weekend, I had to go with my gut feelings and listen to my
intuitions again. I have a lot going on and I have been working hard to
pivot the way I do pretty much everything to achieve my goals and feel
great while doing it all (of course). I had big plans to go out on
Saturday night and even bigger to see family friends on Sunday.
However, I felt like something wasn’t right in my body all day on
Saturday. Something was off. As I was heading out for the
night, I started to get sick - my whole body ached. But, I put on a
smile and pretended to feel great as I left for the party in my dress
and heels. Well…clearly I wasn’t meant to go out because I got locked
out of my apartment! It was a sign.
After I got back into my apartment (almost an hour later), I had to
decide: do I go out (because that was the original plan) or do I stay in
bed? I sent pictures of my dress to my friends and they’re like “GIRL
YOU’RE HOT - YOU NEED TO GO OUT!” But me and my best friend knew that I
had to take a chill pill and rest up. I had to listen to what my body
and my world was saying to me. I had to forget what other people were
saying and doing that night. And you know what? I’m so glad I did
because I’m feeling MUCH better now. Healthy body & mind = Healthy
life!
Over the years, I have learned ways that we can train our intuitive
thinking so we can be smart and listen to our guts to make better
decisions. So if you’re in a situation like me or one at work or home,
you can pull yourself together to #MAKETHINGSHAPPEN. Here it goes:
- Meditate - Practice meditation to help you become better at listening to your intuitive guide. There are several kinds of meditation such as mindful meditation, zen, and wandering mind meditation that are simple to practice and will help your brain make better decision in the future.
- LISTEN TO YOUR GUT, NOT YOUR BUT! Ask yourself questions and see what your first response is. I did this over the weekend. I asked myself “Should I go back out?” My immediate response was “NO! GET IN THAT BED!” You can practice this by dining at a restaurant and picking out the food that comes to you first (and letting go of what other people would say about it). Usually your first response (your gut instincts) is the right one. I see this happen in my fitness classes often. People train hard every day and they say “I really want to take to a take off or go to yoga, but….” Sometimes you had to listen to your GUT, not YOUR BUT!
- Trust yourself. Trust that you and your world know what’s best for you. Hey, if you listen to your gut and it’s not the right thing, then consider it a lesson learned so you’ll be better at reading your intuitions :)
- Exercise your intuition! The right hemisphere of your brain controls your intuition and your creative side. Work it by doing art, dancing, moving, visualizing your goals, etc. Hey, try a Cardio Power Party class with me and I know you’ll be creative and more apt to making better decisions - oh yeah!
- LISTEN. As you’re training yourself to be more mindful of your instincts & intuitions, truly listen to how you feel and what is going on around. How does your morning routine light you up? Do certain activities excite you or bring you down? Get in check so you can participate in what gives you energy & power every single day!
Now let's go #MAKETHINGSHAPPEN!
